When you decide to buy a new Jeep Wrangler, you have the catalog and starting at the website to buy exactly what you want. But when you want sell or buy a gently used Wrangler or you need to update some accessories for your Wrangler, people usually asks which Wrangler you own. Is it a JK, or JL?
Well, that can be a bit tricky if you not a “Jeep Expert”. So today we share 5 ways to check which Wrangler you own—the JK or JL.
1. Start Method
Every new car produced on the market in recent years has adopted a push-button start method, and the Wrangler which has always been started with a key, is no exception. This function was also upgraded in 2018. If you use the button, it's JL edition, if you need the key, it's JK.
2. Front Grille
When you look at the front of the Wrangler from a distance, they are almost identical with a boxy look and retain 7 grilles and headlights. But when you take a closer look, the difference becomes apparent.On the JK edition, that grille is smooth from top to bottom， On the newer JL Wranglers, the grille has a ‘kink’ in the middle as the grille face goes slightly out . If you just got a picture from the seller, you can ask him to take another picture of the grille, then you will get the answer in no time.
3. Fender Vent
JL Wrangler offers is a small vent right behind the driver and passenger front fender flares, to assist airflow. Old JK don’t have this vents behind the front fender. It's also a good way to differentiate which Wrangler version.
4. Fender Signal Lights
The newest generation Wrangler JL now has signal lights on the front flare face itself instead of under the headlights. This is the easiest way to determine the version of Wrangler.
5. Headlights
This is a very subtle difference, If you don't look carefully, it is easily overlooked. JL Headlight is go into the grille vents, but the JK don’t. Perhaps designers felt the looked better that way, but it is very different from JK.
